Peer Support Services

Peer Support Service takes the personal recovery experience of the peer supporters as an intervention point, applying equal“fellow”relationship and nonjudgmental attitude to mutually share life experience and insight with ex-mentally ill persons, and establishing a peer relationship so that they could walk together in a way of non-linearity, overcome life challenges and practice recovery values: peer mutual support and beginning of hope.

Services Mission

1. Supporting ex-mentally ill persons or people troubled with emotional problems through peer sup-porters with similar background
2. Enhancing the sense of hope, accomplishment and satisfaction of ex-mentally ill persons based on the recovery concept
3. Strengthening public acceptance of ex-mentally ill persons

Service Beneficiaries

1. Ex-mentally ill persons and their families, caregivers and neighbours
2. Persons with suspected mental health problems/ and their family, caregivers and neighbour
3. Community members concerning their mental health

Service Content

1. Providing emotional and recovery support to service users, including counselling services in the form of face-to-face interviews and phone conversations.
2. Providing outreach service or care visits to service users
3. Organising recovery groups and activities
4. Organising public mental health education activities

Application Procedure

Applicants can apply this service after admission to ICCMWs and specific residential training units of our agency.

Fee and Charges

Basic service is free of charge. Particular programmes/activities will be charged depending on the arrangement.

Withdrawal

Service users can approach the corresponding service unit to apply for service withdrawal

Staffing

Staff are from the current teams of service units, including registered social workers and peer supporters.

Peer Supporters’ Characteristics

1. Being an ex-mentally ill person or a person recovered from emotional problems
2. Able to adapt to life challenges after recovery
3. Able to properly manage their physical and mental health
4. Willing to share their recovery experience
5. Able to establish peer relationships with the attitude of respect, honesty and trust
6. Able to fully understand and agree with recovery concept
7. Having good communication skills and full of empathy
8. Having a positive life philosophy and attitude
